  • There are 3 land entry/exit points which are all bordering India in the south.
  1. Phuentsholing, is located in the south-west bordering the Indian state of West Bengal. Bagdogra international airport in India is located 150km (3hr 40min) west of Phuentsholing. Phuentsholing is the most popular land entry due to its proximity to the capital city of Thimphu which is 145km (4hr 10min) north of Phuentsholing.

  2. Gelephu, is located in the south-central bordering the Indian state of Assam. Lokpriya Gopinath Borfoloi (Guwahati) international airport in India is located 233km (5hr 18min) south east of gelephu. The capital city of Thimphu is 240km (6hr 51min) North West of gelephu.

  3. Samdrup Jongkhar, is located in the south-east Bhutan bordering the Indian state of Assam. Lokpriya Gopinath Borfoloi (Guwahati) international airport in India is located 105km (2hr 30min) south of Samdrup Jongkhar. The capital city of Thimphu is 412km (11hr 56min) North West of Samdrup Jongkhar. Tourists entering Bhutan through Samdrup Jongkhar will take them through the eastern districts of Bhutan which have more rural lifestyle

Travel By Air

Paro international airport situated at 2225m above sea level is the only international airport in Bhutan. With surrounding peaks as high as 5,500 m (18,000 ft), it is considered one of the world’s most challenging airports to land on. There are no night-time flights to and from Paro as clear visual meteorological conditions are required to land and take-off from Paro. The experience of flying into Paro valley is spectacular as the plane navigates through the valley full of rice fields while avoiding the high mountain spurs.
